ARGIES
is a band originated in the city of Rosario (Argentina) and, since 1995, it has
been settled in Buenos Aires.
The name "ARGIES" is the pejorative apocope for
"Argentinian", word extensively used by the English military men
during the Falklands war, in 1982.
From its beginnings, the band composed testimony-based lyrics, style that is
kept as at today.
Even though its musical root was the British punk from the seventies, today its
music is blended with nuances of reggae, a little bit of funk, ska, dub and
latin rhythms.
Since ARGIES is a band with many years on stage, it is not possible to determine
the exact amount of concerts offered. Just to state some of the most important
ones, we can mention that shared with the German band "DIE TOTEN
HOSEN" in 1997 in the cities of Buenos Aires and Rosario, as well as the
show with "FERMIN MUGURUZA ETA DUT" (former Negu Gorriak) and
"TODOS TUS MUERTOS" in October 1998 at "Cemento", in the
city of Buenos Aires.
The passing of years and the acquired experience led ARGIES to travel all over
their country as well as to other countries such as Paraguay, Uruguay, Brazil,
Peru, Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela.
It is important to make it clear that the band has visited Brazil, Paraguay and
Uruguay on several occasions. At the beginning of 1999, the band carried out an
important Latin American tour as a way of promoting its second CD "A MEDIA
ASTA".
So, since January 1st until February 15th 1999, ARGIES went on a tour called
"LATE LATINO ´99" which included the cities of Lima, Quito, Cuenca,
Guayaquil, Medellín, Caracas, Maracaibo, Barquisimeto, Mérida, San Cristóbal,
São Paulo and Mogi das Cruzes (São Paulo).
The tour lasted 45 days and ARGIES performed in 15 shows, in 12 cities of 5
countries.
Among the most crowded concerts of "LATE LATINO ´99" we can state the
ones of Guayaquil (ECUADOR), Medellín (COLOMBIA), Barquisimeto (VENEZUELA),
Lima (PERU) and São Paulo (BRAZIL).
Precisely, on June 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th, 1999, ARGIES performed again in São
Paulo (BRAZIL) as part of the second edition of "Mercosul indie rock"
and in order to promote the official distribution of its discographic release,
which was in charge of "Rotten Records" recording company, achieving
the total number of 19 international shows throughout that year.
During September, ARGIES hosted Brazilian band "SUBVIVENTES", when the
third edition of "Mercosul indie rock" took place in Argentina for the
first time. Both bands performed in a series of shows in several cities of
Argentina.
In 2000, more precisely in February, musicians went back to Brazil for the
fourth edition of "Mercosul indie rock".
Among seven shows in that country and an increasing popularity, ARGIES also
played in schools for children with Down´s syndrome, participated in charity
projects for children who live in the streets and organized ecologic walks to
collect all kinds of residues produced by man in semi-wild areas.
"Mercosul indie rock" would start to increase the number of
attendants…
Back in Argentina, many concerts took place, the most important one being that
co-produced by "Argies" in the city of Rosario for the mythical Basque
punk band "M.C.D."
And another turnaround….back to Brazil once again and for the fourth time in
less than a year. Of course: "Mercosul indie rock 5". The band was
increasingly socially committed, offered more shows, had a better organization,
was more interested and gathered a greater amount of public.
Eight very well structured shows organized by bands "SUBVIVENTES" and
"TERCERA CLASE" and a great amount of new fans who are now part of the
already existing and loyal "punks carniças" from the ABC area of São
Paulo.
Once again "MUERTE LENTA", Argentine mates with whom they have a very
close relationship, traveled with "ARGIES".
In its fourth stay in Brazil, during September 2000, "ARGIES" recorded
exclusively for "Rotten Records" company three new songs in Portuguese
which would be part of a CD to be edited within a few days in that country and
that would include, among these new songs, others of its previous two CDs.
The name of that new release would be "O melhor do Argies", which
would contain the new songs in Portuguese and was recorded with the
participation of "SUBVIVENTES", "TERCERA CLASE" and backing
vocals by José Luis Ares Fernández ,"ARGIES"´ former bass player.
Back in Argentina, the band immediately performed in the capital city and was
invited by their friends of "A77AQUE" to the multitudinous show
offered in Rosario on September 24th, before over 1200 people as part of the
"Insomnio Tour".
In a few days, a contract with CABRITEN PANCHEN DISCOS discographic company
which engaged "ARGIES" for the recording of its third studio record
would be entered into. Finally, the band started to program concerts for the
European tour which would take place as from March and until June 2001.
There are already 14 confirmed shows, and the band will have enough time to
achieve the desired figure of approximately 45 to 50 shows in that continent.
Countries included: PORTUGAL, SPAIN, BASQUE COUNTRY, FRANCE, HOLLAND, GERMANY,
CZECH REPUBLIC, AUSTRIA, HUNGARY, ROMANIA, CROATIA, SLOVENIA AND ITALY.
Since "ARGIES" has a very old debt with itself, musicians have
postponed their tour around Mexico and the USA, as well as a brand new proposal
to tour Australia.
Time will tell.
